Today we are bringing Rachael and Marc’s boho-tattoo-Portuguese wedding to you from East Riddlesden Hall. We visit this venue almost every week and we never cease to be amazed by how different each couple makes it look. Rachael is a photographer with a background in events and Marc is a graphic designer turned tattooist, so these two really knew the look they wanted to achieve.
As ever, with our real weddings, I asked them to dish the dirt, and Rachael didn’t disappoint.
“Marc and I first met on a dating website called Plenty of Fish….yes you heard that right. We even had it as one of our table names and made all the lads sit on it lol. Marc hates that I tell everyone lol.”
As I am a Boho girl at heart when we were choosing our wedding venue we wanted something stunning but also it had to have that relaxed feel to it. We were recommended East Riddlesden Hall from my Mum, when we went to view it we were blown away and knew there and then it was perfect for what we wanted. I think we called the next day to book it!
My work background is Events! So when getting married I had Mood boards and Pinterest boards coming out of my ears! I designed and planned the whole thing and was very specific in what I wanted to create. We had many themes (Boho, tattoos, Portuguese) but somehow they all pulled together and really worked and complimented each other. I am half Portuguese and had family fly over for the wedding so all the menu’s and signs were in Portuguese. All the other guests had to use the internet to find out what they were eating, we had a BBQ which included Peri Peri Chicken. The food was supplied to us by Hog & Apple.
“I am a bohemian lover so we had a mini tepee, dream catchers, rugs down the aisle, large vases full of wild flowers and of course the lighting supplied by typical type was the icing on the cake and really set the mood of the barn and the theme. The top table made my mum cry when it was all finished with the flowers. My sister in law is a florist so I was lucky enough to have her do the flowers and she did an amazing job at that. I did push her a lot though hahaha! Such a bridezilla.”
“Marc is tattooist by trade but previously studied graphic design (Man of many talents). Therefore we incorporated the two for our wedding invites and favours which Marc designed. Each guest received an A5 sheet full of temporary tattoos designed by Marc, it was funny to see my 85 year old grandma walking around with a temporary tattoo of a butterfly on her chest.”
“When I was a young girl watching love actually I once said to my Mum (which I forgot) that I wanted a Gospel Choir to sing at my wedding like they did in the film. Well low and behold, my Mum had planned a little surprise for me and after our meal this Gospel Choir started singing from behind the curtains….well the tears began all again!! I was so shocked, it was amazing and a fantastic surprise.”
“We wanted a fun, relaxed but jam packed wedding day where no one felt like there was that typical wedding lull in the afternoon. I wouldn’t change anything for the world…….well actually I would have made the day go a lot slower lol!”
You know, sometimes we look at weddings and just wish we were there too, this is one of those weddings, it looked amazing. Thanks Rachael and Marc for sharing.
